Windows 11 keeps changing my default audio source

Hi there, ever since the update to Windows 11, version 23H2, currently in 24H2 with the same issue, after every shut down/reset windows keeps changing my audio source. I have connected via usb to my pc a razer headset audio card dongle, thats supposedly gives 7.1 audio/thx spatial audio to the headset etc etc, i have the monitors speakers and of course the real speakers connected. So far the edifier speakers were the default source, checked on the audio panel as well and i use a software called soundswitch to press a button and change to the razer headset audio. Due to the position of the pc,

    :)

  2. Windows doesn't follow my default audio source

I just updated to Windows 11 and it is now causing a severe audio problem. I have two audio sources connected to my computer:

    1. A Steelseries Arctis Pro headest
    2. A Scarlett Focusrite USB DAC for my speakers

So here's the problem, as soon as I updated to Windows 11, it immediately switched all audio to my Focusrite box. I made my headset the default audio system, and Windows is still prioritizing the Focusrite box. However, if I disable the Focusrite box through Windows, the audio immediately switches to my headset with no problem. This happened for my games, my internet browser, and Discord (which means you can also add that Windows 11 is ignoring my Default Communications Device as well). None of the audio goes through any default output device while the Focusrite box is enabled.

The way this was working in Windows 10 was that I never even had to set my default audio. Turning my headset on immediately made my headset the default audio device, and turning my headset off immediately reverted the change. It was fantastic. This new problem immediately began after updating Windows 11, and it's a big one. I switch between my headset and speakers through the day.

I have no desire to disable the Focusrite box through menus every time I want to use the headset and re-enable it to use the Focusrite box. The default audio options should have taken care of this anyway. What exactly is going wrong? Why is Windows 11 not following its own default audio settings?

Default Printer keeps changing in Windows 10

    Hi John,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that the default Printer keeps changing after you restart the computer.

    1. Did this issue started recently? If yes, then what are the recent changes that you have made to the computer prior to this issue?

    Method 1:

I suggest you to try turning off “let Windows manage your default printer” and check if you are still facing the issue. To do so follow the steps below:

    Open Start and select Settings
    > Devices > Printers & scanners. Turn off
Let Windows manage my default printer.

If you still have issues, please follow the suggestion in method 2.

    Method 2:

Windows 11 audio volume slider ignore default audio device

    Hi,

I am using Windows 11 with 2 audio sources, switching between the two daily (Speakers and Headphones). Today I noticed that I can't change the volume of anything that is not my speakers via the volume control.

To be precise I can't control my headphone's volume using the built in keyboard audio slider. All it does is just modify my speaker's volume even when it is not active.

    • I tried with another keyboard
    • I tried restarting my pc
    • I tried windows update
    • I tried using a different plug for my audio source
    Neither of the above worked.

If I open up windows audio mixer I can modify there my headphone volume but for some reason when I use any keyboard to modify the volume of the active source, windows sticks to my speakers and modifies only that even when not in use.
