Windows 10: Windows 11 LayoutModification.json - MS Doc does not work as described

The docs here does not work as described: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/customize/desktop/customize-the-windows-11-start-menu1. Modify the Start Menu to have 4 pined items2. Export-StartLayout –path .\LayoutModification.jsoni.e.{"pinnedList":[{"desktopAppId":"MSEdge"},{"desktopAppId":"Microsoft.Office.WINWORD.EXE.15"},{"desktopAppId":"Microsoft.Office.EXCEL.EXE.15"},{"desktopAppId":"Microsoft.Office.POWERPNT.EXE.15"}]}3. Copying LayoutModification.json to: C:\Users\default\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\4. Create new account and login. 5. The Start Menu is still OEM.

DTS supported natively by Windows 8/8.1 and it should work on windows 10 too just DDL require to unlock your driver .

The steps above create a dummy exe file, which you point windows to open json files with, then you delete the dummy exe and restart, When you restart the dummy exe will not exist, so Windows will not know how to open json files and that file association will
revert to unknown and the icon should be the default white icon . ..

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps.

Windows 10 has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with Internet Explorer. I would suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check if the issue is with your Explorer.

Refer these steps:

• Press Windows key +X, select Control panel

• Change the view by option on the top right to Large icons
• Click on troubleshooting and click on the view all option on the left panel
• Run the Internet Explorer performance troubleshooter
