Windows 11 loses file associations constantly with .ZIP files and others.

Hi All,When I double-click a .zip file in File Explorer, I am constantly asked to "Select app to open this .zip file".I select WinZip and then "Always" to permanently set the file association for .zip files to WinZip.However, as soon as WinZip opens the file, the file association is lost and the field in "Default apps" setting goes blank.See attached animated .gif for the details.Seems to be a bug to me.Something similar happens with .pdf files, and .htm and .html files constantly being reset to Edge instead of my selected Firefox, but let's stick with resolving the .zip file issue for now.Ple

    Can't make zip file association

To answer in reverse order - Windows Explorer is an app that can unzip, if you don't see it in the list, click 'more apps', scroll to the bottom then click 'find another app on this PC'. Look for C:\Windows\explorer.exe

Once you have set the association for one .zip file, it applies to all .zip files from then on.

    Can't make zip file association

In some magical way that Windows has, my zip files have become associated with Photoshop??????????

I cannot figure out how to assign a zip association. Though there's a list of probably 50 .z## file types which i have NONE. There is no .zip association which i have many.

    How do i correct this?

I'm sorry but i will not be back for 4 hours but will check this forum immediately on my return.

    Can't make zip file association

There is a tutorial here on TF for resetting the default file associations. It may help. You can't, under your current issue, download the whole file, because it is a Zip file. Kinda a Catch 22. But scroll down till you see the one for Zip, and download the .reg file and merge it (click it). I've also posted it here, if you want, along with the link to the tutorial.
