Windows 10: Windows 11 loses wifi access if external monitor is disconnected when laptop is powered down

As described by title, if I disconnect my 2nd monitor after shutting down my laptop, it loses the ability to connect to wifi-networks. The icon for it does not appear, and wireless networks dont seem to be present in Settings either.This can be fixed with network reset, but it is not an ideal solution.How should i go about troubleshooting this issue, and can this be caused by an incompatible monitor driver? Monitor is old.

Windows 11 laptop not working consistently with external monitor

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon with a new install of Windows 11 Enterprise. I have the laptop connected to an external monitor and several other peripherals through a Lenovo Thinkpad Dock. All other peripherals are behaving as expected. I've set all the power options to do nothing when the lid is closed. I can get the laptop to work with the external monitor sometimes and at other times, the monitor doesn't see the laptop (it's a Dell external monitor). Sometimes if I reset the power options, the monitor will work but usually when I come back the next day, it's no longer working.

The laptop was recently serviced and reformatted with Windows 11 Enterprise. I didn't have this problem when it was running Windows 10.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

• If you have an identical laptop try comparing the wifi and security settings of the one that does not disconnect with the one that does. If you find any differences change the settings of the one that does not work to the one that does.

• If you do not have an identical laptop see this post and the three replies for possible solutions: Wifi disconnects every 5 minutes.

• Are you aware of any changes that happened on the computer prior to this issue?
  

This issue could be due to the display setting corruption that only affected the primary display when disconnected from the secondary.



I suggest you to try the steps listed below and check if it works for you:

• Press ‘Win + R’ keys on the keyboard together to open the Run dialog box and type the following into the Run box:
  appwiz.cpl
  
• Uninstall Intel HD Graphics Drivers and exit
  Programs and Features.
  
• Right click the Windows icon on the taskbar and choose
  Device Manager.
  
• Expand Display Adapters and right click on
  Intel HD Graphics Display Driver.
  
• Click on Uninstall and check the box
  Delete the driver software for this device.
  
• With the external monitor connected, reboot the machine.
  
• Once the machine boots into the desktop, disconnect the external monitor and check if the issue persists.
