Windows 10: Windows 11 Microphone Mute Hotkey

Does Windows 11 allow for a keyboard shortcut for muting your microphone? I just switched from a laptop using Window 10 to a desktop with Windows 11. My laptop keyboard came with a mic control button to mute and unmute, and I'm wondering if there's a way to turn on a similar keyboard shortcut for desktop keyboards. Everything I've found online is only mentioning a shorcut for Microsoft Teams, but I'm looking for a shortcut that will control the mic no matter what the program I'm using is. I mainly use discord and the Teams shortcut doesn't work there. I even tried getting a little separate USB

After upgrade to Windows 11, Fn+F4 Mute Hotkey does not mute microphone

My laptop is Lenovo Thinkpad T490s

After upgrade to Windows 11, Fn+F4 Mute Hotkey does not mute microphone, not only this one many Fn+F functions not working, some are working like:

Fn+F1 mute the speakers

Fn+F2 decrease sound level

Fn+F3 increase sound level

Fn+F5 increase display brightness

Fn+F6 decrease display brightness

But the below not working on windows 11 while they were working in windows 10:

Fn+F4 mute the microphone

Fn+F7 control which display screen when connected to another screen

Fn+F8 disable/enable wi-fi

Fn+F10 disable/enable Bluetooth

I tried Fn+Esc but nothing changed.

 

After Windows 11 Update, Fn+F4 Mute Hotkey does not mute microphone

I am used to using the Fn+F4 shortcut on my ASUS TUF Gaming F15 keyboard to mute the microphone whenever I need to do so. Unfortunately, the function does not work anymore shortly after the most recent Windows 11 update (December 7, 2021). It shows on the screen that the microphone should be muted, but upon testing it with software in the system that uses the microphone, they still register the mic input.



Unfortuantely, rolling back the update is not an option for me as it is not available and I have tried the following steps from the following forums in an attempt to resolve the issue but have not worked.

The issue also affected my Lenovo Ideapad L340 Gaming Laptop which uses Windows 11 too. However, it was affected by earlier updates (November 2021), but the description of the malfunction still stands.

Can anyone please help with this issue? Thank you very much in advance.

The version for the ASUS laptop and Lenovo laptop is Windows 11 Home Version 21H2.

 

Easy enable/disable microphone?

Hmmm... wonder if windows has a keyboard shortcut to do that, will research and get back.

There are quite a few keyboards out there that have volume control and mute right at your fingertips.

Edit: check this out "NirCmd" - look at the link for available arguments, there should be one for mic volume

Edit2: it's "changesysvolume" - use "microphone" as the second argument - look it up on the NirCmd refernce page.
