Windows 10: Windows 11 MSI Laptop Suddenly Running Slow After Restart

Hi, I'm having some issues with my current gaming laptop running Windows 11. After restarting it a few hours ago, it suddenly became a lot laggier and programs take longer to open. I got this laptop a month ago and haven't had any problems like this.I'm not sure if it was any driver updates I installed or something else that's causing this to happen. I also ran a few system file checks through command prompt earlier because I was having a problem unrelated to this, and the first time Windows found corrupt files and repaired them. Lenovo laptop suddenly slow

I have a new Lenovo E580 laptop (bought January 2019) which suddenly started to run very slow. I have especially noticed it with build times in Visual Studio and loading times for a local website in IIS.

I have tried to reinstall Windows 10 Pro by formatting the entire computer but it’s still slow.

Laptop spec:

• Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
  
• CPU: i7-8550U 2.00GHz
  
• 16 GB RAM
  
• 512 SSD
  

Software where I really notice the slowness:

• Visual Studio Community 2019 Version 16.3.9
  
• IIS to Windows 10
  

I have tried to setup an older laptop with the same software installed as the new laptop, to compare the loading times. The old laptop has a very similar spec. (i7-4700MQ 2.40GHz, 16GB RAM, 256 SSD). The load time for a local website on the new laptop is 78 seconds where on the old is 30 seconds. On the new laptop it used to be around 30 seconds as well.

It’s not just Visual Studio and IIS that is slow it’s the entire laptop. I thought it would be fixed by reinstalling Windows but there were no improvements. I suspect it’s a hardware issue, but I don’t get any errors, and everything looks fine.

Does anyone have suggestions to what I can try to pinpoint this issue or is it better to contact Lenovo support, as the new laptop is still under warranty?

OK have done the above. Hardware seems fine, no?

PS I have set Performance Manager running. It said it is "Collecting data for 60 seconds..." however my computer is running SO slowly that after what is now 15 minutes (and counting) it has not spat out any results (!).

Deleted my previous post data from two hours ago. There is a much easier method:

1. Download the Download - Auto-installer for USB Key (Win 9x/2k/xp/7) to your Desktop. Right click on it and select Extract all.




2. That will place Memtest86+ USB Installer.exe on your Desktop.

3. Insert a 512 MB or larger flash drive into your computer.

4. Run Memtest86+ USB Installer.exe by double clicking on it or right clicking and selecting Open.




Select your Flash drive from the drop down list.




Check We will format ... as FAT32 then click Create.




Flash drive will be created. Only takes a few seconds.




Click Finish.




That's it. Test the flash drive to make sure it boots okay and your're ready to run memtest86+ when ever you have time.
