Windows 10: windows 11. My USB keyboard suddenly drops random characters as I type

I am on a laptop, running Windows 11. I use a Microsoft wireless USB keyboard and mouse.I work typing all day, so this problem is more than a nuisance. It apparently just started, because I would have noticed it before.I am fairly certain this is a software issue, not hardware.As I type, periodically characters are not detected by windows, so words come out incomplete. Even as I typed this message it happend a few times. Perhaps it is a coincidence, but when I press either shift key, the problem seems to aggravate itself.I noticed that when the problem manifested itself, the green/red light on
