    Windows 11 Not Assigning Drive Letter to External HDD


    I have a 3TB Seagate SATA which I connect with a SATA to USB powered connector. I've formatted the drive in NTFS and gave it a drive letter. The following day, I connect the drive, but it does not appear in file manager. I check the Disk Manager and I can see it, but it has no drive letter assigned. I attempt to change to the drive letter, and I choose a letter. But the letter is not assigned to the drive, and the drive still does not appear in file manager. So, I plug the drive into a Windows 10 PC, and the I can assign a driver letter and it does show up in file manager. Then, I move

    help. USB drive isn't assigned a drive letter.

    Any usb flash drive I plug into my computer isn't assigned a drive letter. The physical drive shows in the "safely remove hardware" but it doesnt show up in disk management. I have tried to populate the volume thru the safely remove hardware properties window and it does pop up in the list but it doesn't stay there. This isn't a format or assign a letter problem. It's more complicated then that. Maybe one of the services needed for usb drive management was disabled? Suggestions needed. btw external usb harddrives work fine.

    When I plug an external hard drive to my PC (Windows 10) via the USB, the computer does not recognize it in Windows Explorer. I have to go into Disk Management to assign the drive a letter before I can see it in Windows Explorer. Is there an option in
    Windows 10 to automatically assign the drive a letter, and I can see the drive in Windows Explorer, so I do not have to keep having to assign letters to external drives?
