Windows 10: Windows 11 not finding any of my documents with file explorer search?

Hello,I have all my documents at c:\documents - my documents points to this folder. Search used to work at that location as that is one of the first changes I make - had been working for about 6 months.I can search other folders for files and they work. I could probably move the files but that isn't a solution - that would be a work around.I've furn sfc and dismRunning Windows 11 22H2I removed documents from index search and put it back in and waited for reindexing to occur.

I'm not sure I follow what you mean by that? Could you explain, please?

My problem is that I can't find pdfs doing word searches in Windows/File Explorer - it brings up documents in Word, Excel, etc but not any that are saved as pdfs. So, when I did what you suggested above on the Command Prompt, I saw all the pdfs listed (and I have many on my laptop) but I'm not sure what to do with that list. It confirms that the pdfs are there and recognisable but doesn't help me find the ones I'm trying to find with a key word search.

 

File Explorer Search Not Working


I am trying to search in File Explorer (Windows Explorer, My Computer) and it will not find anything. I can copy text from a name in the list and paste it in the search box and it still finds nothing. I have looked at the suggestions that have been posted and nothing I find that is relative to this works. Anyone have any suggestions? I am running Win 10 Pro on an I3 coustom desktop computer.

Hello Kirk,

If the name of the pdf file has the word in it that I search for, Windows Explorer (sometimes called File Explorer) will find the document, but if the word is only within the document, it won't.

So, if I have a document called 'January Board Minutes' and I search for 'board', Windows/File Explore finds the document. But if the document is called 'January Minutes' and I search for 'board', it doesn't come up in the search results.

Once I open a pdf, the word search feature (Find in Adobe Acrobat) works.

I've also discovered since I posted my query yesterday that the search function in Windows/File explorer doesn't find Microsoft Publisher documents that contain the word being searched for, so it's not just pdfs.
