Windows 11 OS image restore from HDD to SSD

Hello Experts, My laptop is currently running on Windows 11 22H2, installed on HDD. I would like to upgrade to SSD.Just to keep the process simple, I'm planning to...1. Take Windows OS image backup from HDD. 2. Install SSD drive.3. Restore the image backup to the new SSD drive.Since other h/w resources are going to be intact, I guess this approach should work. Is this approach possible or any road blocks? Did any of you try this please? Please share your thoughts / suggestions.Thank you for your time.

    :)

  2. Help, cant create windows image

    Hello there, @fullinfusion!

It seems like some sort of an OS confusion has happened with your secondary WD Black and I'm sorry to hear about that. *Frown Windows 11 OS image restore from HDD to SSD :(
Maybe re-formatting it would help indeed as the community already mentioned. I'd suggest to take a look at this step-by-step how to partition and format an HDD: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=PYCoid
Keep in mind that this will wipe clean the drive, so you should backup all important data from the drive somewhere else.
I noticed from the screenshots that your HDD appears as Disk 0, this means that it's plugged in the primary SATA port where the SSD (as an OS drive) should be. Actually it is possible that because of this Windows cannot create the image there. Swap the ports of the SSD and the HDD, this might help as well.

Keep me posted. Hope this helped! *Smile Windows 11 OS image restore from HDD to SSD :)

  3. Moving OS Image from HDD to SSD

I also recently discovered Macrium Reflect Free Edition which I found like Acronis but better. You could also use the built in Windows 7 image utility under Backup and Restore (but not if the new volume is physically smaller than the original which is often the case when moving to SSD from HDD).

Formatting the SSD under Windows 7 should take care of the alignment too.

  4. Windows 11 OS image restore from HDD to SSD

Can I restore an SSD image to a normal hard drive disk

partition the files on the 500GB into two drives. so there will be two partitions, 150GB(OS and files) and 350GB(empty).

then clone the 150GB to the 240GB SSD
