Windows 10: Windows 11 PRO license for VM on premises

User from abroad is connecting to a dedicated physical workstation to work on large-size drawings. The company is running 2 VM hosts on the premises.Can I install a virtual desktop PC running Windows 11 PRO, purchase and activate the license directly from the Microsoft store, and allow this user to connect with TeamViewer or RDP like he was doing until now to a physical PC.This is purely to remove one of the physical workstations from the server room.There is no Azure, no Cloud, or no Entra involved in this - on-premises environment. Licencing Windows 11 Pro vms, on-premise server HyperV / ESXi

Hi,

Looking how to licence correctly Windows 11 Pro on a server running Hyper-V or ESXi.



What is the correct and most effective’ way of licensing 20 x Win 11 VM’s running on an on-premise server running HyperV or ESXi (not bothered which at this stage) and what base licences will be required for the devices connecting to the Win 11 vms?

Windows 10 License for VM in VDI Scenario

Hello,

In a VDI on-premise scenario, what OS license should I install on the VM that the user will be accessing?

I understand that Windows VDA is required for each user for access rights, but how about the VM dedicated to each of them?

Can I just use a normal Windows 10 Pro/Enterprise to install on those VMs or I need something more special Windows 10 licenses? And do I have to license each VM?

Can VMs licensed by SPLA be moved to non-hosted on premise with retial licensing?

I am working with a client who is trying to move resources from a Managed Service Provider to their on premise infrastructure.

The current MSP is currently providing the client with a single physical server running two Windows Server (unknown version) VMs. We asked for copies of the VMs so we could both archive everything in it’s current state, and keep one of those VMs running as-is. It’s running some proprietary software that is no longer supported and we have no way of rebuilding on a fresh system.

The current MSP is telling us that they cannot transfer the VMs to us, only the raw data they contain, as the Windows Server installs are licensed under Microsoft’s SPLA program.

As far as I understand, the MSP can remove the licenses from the existing VM, and our client can re-license them once moved to the client's infrastructure.

Can someone let me know if this is allowed? Official doccumentation would be helpful
