Windows 10: Windows 11 Pro search indexing restarting from 0 item again even after full indexing was done

Hi Folks,When go to windows 11 pro: "Privacy & Security/searching windows", the top right corner will show the number of items INDEXED and number of items PENDING. After indexing had been completed, in my case about 1.5 million items, "indexed" will show 1500000 while "pending" shows 0. Means complete indexing had been done.A few days later, will however found the "Indexed" showing near 0 again and "Pending" shows near 1500000 and a fresh round of indexing will take place again, on its own.It normally takes a few days for the indexing to complete, in my case of 1.5 million items to be inde

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps

• Press Windows key + R.
• Type Services.msc In the search box.
• Select Windows Search
• Restart the services and set the service as Automatic

If the issue persist try performing Rebuilding Index again.

To rebuild the index follow the steps below:

• Open the Control Panel from the Start menu.
• Open Indexing Options in the Control Panel.
  
• Select the Advanced button in the Indexing Options window.
• Select Rebuild in the Troubleshooting section of the Advanced Options window.
• Select OK when it asks if you’re sure you want to re-build the search index.

Indexing & number of items indexed. Is this normal ?

Hi, not sure what you're experiencing.
What appears odd in your video is that opening and closing a file appears to cause the number of items indexed to increment.
That should not be so.

Hazarding a guess, I'd suggest it's something to do with having changed the defaults related to 'User' in Indexing options. You could be indexing temporary files unnecessarily.

I would suggest you need to reset your Indexing Options to default and rebuild the index.
