Windows 10: Windows 11 Pro - using Microsoft account PIN, need password to use RDP

I have a non domain Windows 11 Pro laptop that I need to RDP to from another Windows 11 Pro non domain desktop. Always sign into the laptop using the Microsoft pin set for that device. However, for RDP purposes it requires a proper password. I dont recall setting a password for that laptop. Where is this done, and is my only option to reset it? Thanks

• Click Start menu and go to Settings.
• In Settings, click the Accounts icon.
• Click on Sign-in options.
• Change both your password and pin one by one.

Microsoft Account and Authentication during RDP

Hello, trying to RDP to my windows 10 (fall creators update) via RDP but the RDP client always fails with invalid credential.

I have tried the combinations:

• Microsoft account primary alias and Microsoft account password
• Local username associated with my Microsoft account and Microsoft account password

Neither is accepted for sign in. I have Mobile sign in enabled on my account so I technically never entered my password here.

 

How to use Microsoft Account's password to sign in Windows 11 with Remote Desktop

Hi,

During installing Windows 11, I logged in with my Microsoft Account (Current account) with 2FA ( no password required ), the installation setup suggested I create a pin code for login, so I did, but there is a problem, I could not sign in with Remote Desktop either with pin code or Microsoft Account's password.

In this circumstance, I try to go settings > account > sign-in options, and there is no option of Password and the pin code can not be removed ( the button turns grey and can not be pressed).

A few years ago when I was installing Windows 10, I signed in with the same Microsoft Account but without 2FA ( Password required ), so afterward I could just use my Microsoft Account's password to sign in to my Windows 10 PC with RDP.

OS: Windows 11 version 21H2 (OS Build 22000.318)
