Windows 10: Windows 11 product key will not link to my Microsoft account

Help! I have installed Windows 11 onto a new computer. I was NOT logged into my Microsoft account when I activated my product key. From what I understand, I will need to link this product key to my Microsoft account in order to safely make sure I can re-install and activate Windows again. I will be installing Windows on a new drive, once it gets here, because my current drive I figured out is fake and I need to return it.I already have a Microsoft account so I logged in with those credentials. For some reason, my product key is not automatically linking to the product key. I can never get it

Reactivating Windows 11 after retrieving the motherboard key involves using the original product key or digital license associated with your system.

Here are the steps to reactivate Windows 11:

1. Open Settings:
   
   • Click on the Start button and select the gear icon to open "Settings."
     
2. Navigate to Update & Security:
   
   • In the Settings menu, click on "Update & Security."
     
3. Go to Activation:
   
   • In the left sidebar, select "Activation."
     
4. Enter Product Key:
   
   • If you have a product key, click on "Change product key" and enter the key when prompted.
     
5. Use Digital License:
   
   • If your Windows 11 was linked to your Microsoft account, you might see an option to troubleshoot and link your digital license. Click on this option and follow the prompts.
     
6. Restart Your Computer:
   
   • After entering the product key or linking your digital license, restart your computer.
     
7. Verification:
   
   • Go back to the Activation section in Settings to verify that Windows 11 is now activated.
     

 

How to unlink a product key from the Microsoft account?

It is dead easy to remove the digital link from MS account. Simply change login to a local licence. Then use your product key on new pc. If Windows complains key has already been used, use telephone activation and at step where it asks about licence, state it will only be used on new pc.

I am trying to link my Microsoft Account to my Product key. I followed the steps in the link below:

Activate Windows - Microsoft Support

One of the steps say that I should go to the activation page and select "Add Account", but I don't see such an option.

I am already logged in with my Microsoft Account, I am also an Administrator for my PC. My Activation State is shown as "Windows is Activated" but I want it to say "Windows is activated with a digital license linked to your Microsoft account"

How do I go about doing that?
