Discus and support Windows 11 reset wiped out the ability to open .HEIC and .MOV files in Windows 10 Software and Apps to solve the problem; Due to Microsoft bugs, I was forced to reset Window 11 on my Surface Pro but that wiped out the ability to play .MOV files and open .HEIC images!...     Windows 11 reset wiped out the ability to open .HEIC and .MOV files


    Due to Microsoft bugs, I was forced to reset Window 11 on my Surface Pro but that wiped out the ability to play .MOV files and open .HEIC images! Before the reset I was able to open .HEIC files and play .MOV videos without any problem even with the latest updates on Windows 11 Pro but lost that ability after a clean reset to 24H2, 26100.3775. Now Microsoft Department of Efficiency has decided they want $0.99 to restore the functionality that I already had by purchasing HEVC video extensions from them! For the Photos app on my iPhone, under 'Transfer to MAC or PC', I selected 'Automatic' inst

    How to open Apple HEIC file in windows 10 PC?

    I have transferred photos and videos from an iPhone X to the Windows 10 laptop but am unable to open the HEIC file. It displays
    install additional codices to work with this file and download codices at the Microsoft Store. But that extension is not free. Isn’t there a way to open the Apple HEIC and MOV files in Windows 10 for free, or I should download a tool from
    the Apple Store to open the HEIC and MOV files in Windows 10 PC? Thank you for your help.

    Mov codec broken.

    My mov codec must be broken. All the *.mov files are opening, but the colors are all damaged. Any suggestions? I have tried quick time alternative as well as quicktime with the same result. Whats the best way to clean out the old codecs so I can reinstall.

    Thank you for your response. I installed the app according to your suggestion. It did not solve the problem. The .heic file extension did have photos as default apps. I then reset the following 4 apps:

    Heif image extensions

    Hevc video extensions

    Hevc video extensions from device manufacturer

    Photos

    After doing all these I am still not able to open the heic files. Very frustrated.
