Windows 10: Windows 11 run chkdsk, reboot, then black screen

Hi all,I downloaded window 11 last October and everything went smooth in the first few months. However, just a few days ago, the system would just randomly freeze and I can do nothing but to reboot it. I googled fixes for this and one solution is that I try a disk scan and fixing by typing: chkdsk c: /f /r in the cmd window as administrator. Then I am asked to restart my PC. I did it, however only got black screen. No chkdsk status, no log in, no windows sign. Just black screen.I tried to press the power button to force it to restart a few times but nothing changed. Could anyone let me know ho

Gtx 460 black screen issue

I have an EVGA gtx 460 that has started acting odd. Every once in awhile I would get a black screen that would require a hard reset. Then eventually the other day, it wouldn't boot at all. It would boot to the windows logo and then black screen.

Replaced it with a spare card, booted up fine.

Put the 460 back in, black screen.

Booted in safe mode, boots fine.

Uninstalled driver and reboot to full windows... boots fine with no driver installed.

Reinstalled latest driver (was already on latest driver when this started) and rebooted. Black screen.

Booted into safe mode and uninstalled driver again.

Reboot to full windows, install old version of driver, reboot. Black screen.

Reboot to safe mode, uninstall driver, reboot to full windows install reeeeeaaally old version of driver. Reboot. Black screen....


So... the only time the card works is when there is no nvidia driver installed... weird.


Anybody got any ideas? I haven't tried testing it in a clean windows install yet, but that's my next step I guess.

 

Black Screen on startup

In case the above steps do not fix the black screen perform the following steps:
1) open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste
2 )sfc /scannow
3) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
4) chkdsk /scan
5) net user test /add
6) When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread
7) shutdown /r
8) sign on with the new user named test
9) report into the thread whether the new user does or does not have a black screen problem.

10) If the black screen occurs with both users reboot the computer into safe mode:

11) report into the thread whether the black screens occur or do not occur in safe mode

12) run this version of the log collector and post a zip into the thread:
log collector v2-beta08.zip

 

Black screen after 'Starting Windows' sequence

Sounds like the old... windows black screen of death.
