Windows 10: Windows 11 search index constantly turns off and does not appear in troubleshooter options.

Windows 11 search index constantly turns off and does not appear in troubleshooter options. In addition, when I start the search troubleshooter through cmd prompt it runs and says no problem. I don't think I have ever seen a component function so poorly or so inconsistently as the windows index. I have had my Dell XPS 8950 for 18 months and in addition to a ton of windows 11 related issues, the search index has never fully completed, shuts off all the time and consistently slows my machine to a crawl.

Search Indexing was Turned Off

When searching on Start Menu, it says Search Indexing was Turned Off. When I click on Turn On Indexing, I get Indexing is not running. There's no option to start indexing, and troubleshoot search and indexing doesn't turn it on.





Please let me know what steps I can take to troubleshoot and resolve, and I will follow steps and post results of steps.

I had tried running this troubleshooter before, but I've just run it again with "Files don't appear in search results" and "My problem isn't listed above" ticked, and it comes up with "Issue not present" against all potential issues, and "Troubleshooting
couldn't identify the problem", even after troubleshooting as an administrator.

I'd be glad of any other suggestions please!

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps

• Press Windows key + R.
• Type Services.msc In the search box.
• Select Windows Search
• Restart the services and set the service as Automatic

If the issue persist try performing Rebuilding Index again.

To rebuild the index follow the steps below:

• Open the Control Panel from the Start menu.
• Open Indexing Options in the Control Panel.
  
• Select the Advanced button in the Indexing Options window.
• Select Rebuild in the Troubleshooting section of the Advanced Options window.
• Select OK when it asks if you’re sure you want to re-build the search index.
