Windows 10: Windows 11 Search stopped working after version revert

I have opted out from Windows Insider program, so my Windows 11 version was reverted to 23H2 repair build. After that I noticed that my search function stopped working completely - not from the Start menu search typing just goes through my apps, not via clicking on Search separately. SearchHost.exe service is also cannot be found in Task Manager's Details screen.I have already tried running Search Troubleshoot, which did not find any issues, tried varios resets of cache and search processes, tried rebuilding search index to no avail. Should I reset/repair my Windows at this point but I don'

Windows Search not working

Noticed last night that Windows Search has stopped working and I have been trying to get it working since with no success. What I have done so far is as follows: Google threw up the following link: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/tro...windows-search and I have done the following from that: Ran Search and Indexing Troubleshooter - that apparently fixed something (didn't grab a screen shot so can't be more specific than that). Rebooted but Search is still not working. Ran the following command followed by another reboot - msdt.exe -ep WindowsHelp id SearchDiagnostic - again no change. Checked for SearchUI as suggested in the link - nothing of that name shows up. Screen shot below of what I do have:

I then rolled back to an image from the 7th of July (one taken before the monthly updates were applied) and Search works fine with that so I reverted back to the one taken last night and Search stops working again. Early indications would suggest that one of the patches applied this month is possibly at fault here. I have done a Google and there doesn't seem to be any reports of Search stopping working following the July updates but have I missed anything? I also grabbed another screen shot of the Task Manager -> Details and that has an 'extra' entry for SearchApp.exe but it is 'Suspended' so not sure if that is just a red herring or not.

Any suggestions on what to try next? Build Version 21H2 - - - Updated - - - Further bit of troubleshooting - reverted to an image taken on the 21st July (so after the July updates) and same problem is seen there - no working Search. Also managed to get screen shots of the Search and Indexing Troubleshooting:



While it says that it has fixed the problem it is still not working... Think my next step is going to be to revert back to the last known good backup and then check for updates and see what happens.

I suggest you try rebuilding the index and check if issue is resolved. To rebuild all the index, kindly follow the below given steps:

• Press Windows key, type Indexing and hit enter.
• Click on Advanced button.
• Click Rebuild under Troubleshooting section and click OK.
• Try searching and see if issue is fixed." WILL NOT WORK as when I type in that search bar all I get is an empty white box.

Windows 10 has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with Internet Explorer. I would suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check if the issue is with your Explorer.

Refer these steps:

• Press Windows key +X, select Control panel

• Change the view by option on the top right to Large icons
• Click on troubleshooting and click on the view all option on the left panel
• Run the Internet Explorer performance troubleshooter
