Windows 11 sign in using Azure AD User - GoDaddy Tenant - Cannot logon saying wrong password

Hi:New Windows 11 computer. Completed the out of box wizard OOBE with an Azure AD user from a GoDaddy tenant. User signed in as expected, setup Office, etc. Everything working normally. Restarted computer to finished installing some Windows updates and now cannot sign in using same Azure AD user. I enter email address and correct password but it responds that password is incorrect. Verified password works for user from another computer, and I used same password during OOBE. Furthermore, cannot sign in to new computer at all since that's the only user.Thank you,Bob H.

    :)

AADSTS50020: User account does not exist in tenant

This has been haunting me for months - shockingly it survived a complete Windows and Visual Studio install from scratch.

Every time I login to Visual Studio, I'm faced with half a dozen login screens - one after the other, for various tenants that I have access to. It's pretty frustrating to have to repeat my password half a dozen times.

But for the last few months, it's been failing because I'm no longer part of one of the orgs. VS doesn't realise this, so keeps trying to log me in. When it fails, it logs me out of everything... so I have no access to anything.

    Here's the error

AADSTS50020: User account '---' from identity provider 'https://sts.windows.net/---/' does not exist in tenant '---' and cannot access the application '872cd9fa-d31f-45e0-9eab-6e460a02d1f1'(Visual Studio) in that tenant. The account needs to be added as an external user in the tenant first. Sign out and sign in again with a different Azure Active Directory user account.

This is a brand new install of Windows 11 Enterprise, with Visual Studio Enterprise. I'm pulling my hair out and ready to dump VS and Azure altogether, as I literally cannot do my job like this.

How can I disconnect my account from the tenant that I no longer have access to? There's no mention of it in our AzureAD. No mention of it on the Organisations that I have access to...

Personal windows account still linked to deleted Azure AD tenant

I deleted an Azure AD tenant I had created using a personal domain, say "personal.com".

Now, I can't remove the personal account *** Email address is removed for privacy *** that managed the deleted AD tenant from Settings > Accounts > Email & accounts (no option to delete it) or from Settings > Accounts > Access work or school (Disconnect button is greyed out).

Windows 11 sign in using Azure AD User - GoDaddy Tenant - Cannot logon saying wrong password

Cannot use GoDaddy created account for Win 11 sign in

If you want to use your GoDaddy email as Windows sign in user, it will be very complicated.

You definitely need to have a local admin user first, or an admin using personal Microsoft account (outlook.com, hotmail.com for example).

Then you can add your GoDaddy email via Settings > Accounts > Access Work or School. However, it is not easy to set it up here. Your GoDaddy email is a custom domain email address linked to Microsoft 365 business license, so it is considered a work or school account. And it is correct, it will be like an AD set up, excep this AD is not living in a server, but in Microsoft's Azure. So you will need to set up your Azure account, set up your Azure AD, put the user there and configure all of the group policy, etc, so that you can add this work email via Settings > Accounts > Access Work or School > Connect > Join this via Azure Active Directory. Whether this user has admin right or not on the device is all configured via Azure portal for the user, not on the local device. Just like any AD, you manage user on the server side.

So that's a lot of work in my opinion just to get this Windows user set up using your GoDaddy email address. But if you are planning on adding more staff to your company's account and you will have more devices to manage, then by all means, this is what a business account and Azure AD are for. But if it is just for one computer, I am not sure if it is worth all of this effort.

I am including the documentation in case you want to explore that path: What is device identity in Azure Active Directory? - Microsoft Entra From overview to how-to on the left menu.
