Windows 11 Sound Issues with Bluetooth Headsets and Game Audio

Ever Since I have updated my computer to windows 11 the sound in my games has been so terrible. I have tried multiple Bluetooth headsets and it sounds as if I am listening through an old time radio. My mics stay open because I use discord to talk while playing. Please help fix this issue! I cannot revert back to Windows 10 because I am past that stupid 10 day rollback and I deleted the copy of windows 10 off my computer.

    :)

  2. Game Audio and Bluetooth headset issue

    Hi thincks,

You've mentioned that the audio issue started probably after installing the latest Windows 10 update.

Please take note that there are a few things we should consider after a Windows update has been installed.

That being said, I would like to know if you already have tried installing the latest Bluetooth driver for your PC. If not, I strongly recommend to update your drivers from your driver manufacturer's web site.

If updating the Bluetooth driver didn't do the trick, you may consider uninstalling the audio driver. Just open your Device Manager by right-clicking the
Start or the Windows icon, choose Device Manager, right-click the audio driver, then select
Uninstall. Reboot your device and Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver.

Have you also tried using a different Bluetooth headset to see if the same game audio issue will persist? How about using the same Bluetooth headset on a different PC? Did you get the same experience?

Since you also said that you've done some troubleshooting steps already, have you tried running the
Audio troubleshooter? If not, here's how:

    1. Select the Start or the Windows icon, then type
      Troubleshoot.
    2. Choose Troubleshoot from the list of the results.
    3. Click Playing Audio, then Run the troubleshooter.

To give you a bit of an idea, there are some apps that has their own volume controls. You might want to check if this kind of setting is found on the games you're playing.

Just respond to this message with your answers and I'll get back to you as swift as I can.

  3. No sound if Bluetooth headset set to default playback and recording

I'm using a Bluetooth headset and for some reason when I set it to the default playback device as well as the default recording device (both normal and 'communication') then I don't get audio in Overwatch.

    Tested:

    • Have sound in Tharsis
    • Have sound in VLC
    • Have sound in Overwatch (windowed mode)
    • No sound in Skyrim
    • Have sound in Sykrim (windowed mode)
    • No sound in Orcs Must Die 2
    • Have sound in Orcs Must Die 2 (windowed mode)
If I switch the default recording device to something else, then the audio does work.

    I am using Windows 10.

The issue appears to be with the way games contact the audio device when in direct mode (not an expert on these things).

The headset did not come with a driver CD (appears to be built in in windows). How do I fix this issue?

  4. Windows 11 Sound Issues with Bluetooth Headsets and Game Audio

    Bluetooth headset playback issues

    Hello community, here's the situation:

I've got two bluetooth headsets that I often use to connect to my computer for gaming and video conferencing. Both of them have worked without issue for years, but today I tried to connect them and they do not play sounds correctly. When you have a bluetooth
headset with a microphone built in Windows typically installs drivers for "headset mode" which is really crappy audio with a ton of hiss and crackle, and then another mode that I would describe as high definition audio. This had been the case for these headsets
as long as I've had them but now only the headset mode audio is available. In addition, all of the other bluetooth devices in the menu show a "driver error" warning. Troubling, I know. Here are some of the things I've tried to overcome this issue:

    • Shutdown/restart. I've tried both, no change.
    • Remove device / reconnect to device, no change.
    • Uninstall/reinstall driver, no change.
    • Update drivers with windows, my drivers were already up to date so far as windows could tell. No drivers have been released for either headset recently.
    • Windows updates, no change.
    • Bang head on desk, small welt.

    Other details as they come:

    • Before today I could switch between headset mode and high definition mode in the playback and sounds menu, but now only the headset mode shows up there even though the drivers for both are installed.

Anybody have this issue and resolve it? Wanna be a pal?
