Windows 10: Windows 11: sound only comes through when a troubleshooter is open

the headphones were working fine and i could hear through them fine, but today i tried to connect them and they connect and play a connected chime from the headphones but wouldnt play any sound through browser or games or anything. the sound also plays fine through my monitor last i checked. i tried going through the troubleshooter and they work while the troubleshooter is open, but the sound sounds distorted. if it helps at all the headphones are Beats studio 3's

• Right-click on the Audio devices listed and click on ‘Uninstall’.
• Select the option to Delete driver software.

Try to access the device manufacturer's website and download and install the latest chipset and sound drivers.
