Windows 10: Windows 11 started to run out of virtual memory

HiFor about a week now windows has been crashing apps on random. SOmetimes it happens during games, i play game and it crashes giving error "run out of memory". Sometimes it happens whnen othing is going on. I keep my pc 24/7 on and it never goes to sleep mode, only monitors turns off after set amount of time.So after i awhile i come back and i see that everything has crashed, nothing works and i have to reboot pc for everything to work. And then everythign works for random amount of time.When i check windows logs they have several virtual memory errors:Windows successfully diagnosed

how to disable virtual memory

Hi,

The virtual memory pagefile can be disable using the command prompt, you must be signed in as an administrator. Kindly follow these steps:

• Press Windows key + R to open the Run window.
• Type CMD to open the command prompt.
• Copy and paste this command: fsutil behavior set encryptpagingfile 0.
• Once done, restart your PC to apply the changes made.

Virtual memory keeps running out

My PC has 32GB of memory and I've never had an issue with virtual memory in the past. I'm now running out of virtual memory every few days which seems to be caused by the commit size for searchindexer.exe constantly increasing. I noted today when I ran out of VM that the commit size for searchindexer was up to around 27GB. I had Windows managing VM, and VM allocated grew to something like 60GB although now I've set it manually to the min/max recommended (16/4918).

Can anyone suggest why this might be happening, please? It's possibly tied in with the install of the 2004 update I did a few weeks a go as I don't recall the issue happening before that. Stopping and restarting the search indexing service frees up virtual memory, but then it just starts increasing again. In the time I've taken to type this the commit size has gone up from 38k to over 200 although there is no CPU activity showing for the search indexing service.

Steps to Increase Virtual Memory in Windows 10.

Step 1: Go to Start Menu and click on Settings.

Step 2: Now type performance on search bar and select Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows.

Step 3: A new Window will open before you. Go to Advanced tab in it.

Step 4: You’ll see a Virtual memory section in it. Click on Change.

Step 5: If the current setting is considerably less than the recommended, unselect the Automatically manage paging file size for all drives box on this window and click on Custom size.

Step 6: Now enter the recommended value in the Initial Size box, and a larger figure in the Maximum size

Step 7: Click on OK to save the changes.
