Windows 10: Windows 11 taskbar icons showing blank after waking the computer up after sleeping

Icons pinned to the taskbar are blank after logging into the computer after it has been asleep. See picture below. After a restart all icons are back. System tray and desktop icons don't have the problem. Only items pinned to the taskbar. Red in picture is my notes. Hovering over a blank icon shows a grey transparent square with the name of the app displayed above. When not hovering over a blank icon there is a space for it, but nothing there. If the app is opened and then closed the icon is back. Any ideas. Thanks, Steve

Thank you for posting your reply. Apologize for the delay in response.

I suggest you to check which devices are configured to wake up the computer from sleep by following the steps below:

• Right click on Start icon and select Command Prompt (Admin).
• Type the command line below:

Powercfg /devicequery wake_armed

3. Check if the devices (Keyboard, Mouse, Ethernet cable) are listed.

If the system is not going to sleep and going to Hybernate, the only option to wake up is to press the Power button.

These icons correspond to Windows Explorer, IE and Office 365 programs.

Steps i took to resolve issue, but did not help are:

1. In order to fix generic blank icon issue on taskbar i killed explorer.exe and restarted it but this did not resolve issue.
2. Ran quick repair on Office 365 & restarted Windows.

There's a possibility that the settings that enables your Space bar to wake your computer up from sleep was reset after updating Windows. If this what had happened, we suggest that you just re-set it up. See the steps below on how to do
so:

• Press Windows key and type keyboard in.
• Click on Keyboard option and a pop-up windows should show up.
• From there, go to > Hardware tab > Properties >
  Change settings > Power management > Allow this device to wake the computer >
  OK/Apply.

Try the if the steps did work and let us know any updates.
