Windows 10: Windows 11 Taskbar Sound Icon and Quick Settings Menu Not Playing Nice with Sound .wav's

Don't think this one has been asked before as I can't find anything on it.After going through all troubleshooting steps I could in relation to getting rid of a ripping type sound + audible pop when adjusting the volume slider accessible via the Taskbar sound icon I have found an issue.Steps I take to reproduce the "issue" as I see it when I have the Windows Notify System Generic sound applied at Control Panel > Sound > Sounds > Notification ...1 Click the Sound Icon on the Taskbar2 If I use the Volume Slider, the Windows Notify System Generic sound obviously plays when doing so3 If

No Sound Playing A .wav File

No sound when playing a .wav file even though Windows Media Player opens and shows the file as playing. .mp3 and midi files both play with sound.

 

No sound when playing old .WAV files

Using WMP (Windows Media Player) the more modern WAVs ripped from music CDs work OK and produce sound. Using the same instance of WMP, the WAV files off the1994 data disk look like they are playing but produce no sound. Windows System sounds play OK and the Volume Mixer is on 100% for WMP.

Are the WAV files from back then of a different structure and the current codec can't interpret them?

To assist you better, I like to know; on which application you are you are trying to play .Wav sound file?

I like to inform you that; you can play .wav audio file format
using Windows Media Player and Windows 10 Groove Music app.

As an initial recommendation, I suggest you to Right click on the
.wav audio file > Select Properties > click on the
Change button adjacent to Open with option > Select Windows Media player option from the given list > Click on
Ok.

If the issue still persists, run audio troubleshooter and check if it helps.

Follow the below steps:

• 
  Type Troubleshooting in the Search area on the taskbar and select
  Troubleshooting.
  
• 
  Select Hardware and Sound.
  
• 
  Select Playing Audio under
  Sound and follow the on screen.
