Windows 10: Windows 11 Update caused loss of drive partitions

Yesterday I was prompted to update when I shut down my Lenovo all-in-one desktop computer. There was an issue with the update and a QR code came up on the screen. Unfortunately, I did not have time to scan it before it disappeared. The computer started up on a screen asking me to select my keyboard layout. It then went to a screen for windows troubleshooting or to turn off computer. Long story short, none of the troubleshooting or update rollback options worked. I kept getting a message that the drive was not accessible. Using the command prompt, I ran DISKPART. The result was that th

W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

- press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
- diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
- list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
- select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
- clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
- create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
- exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
- click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that

 

Windows Update to 1H21 causes loss of right-click function  

First step isn't right click. The download is a zip file. The program is portable.



If you can't even run that, and given other issues, and the length of this thread, and if an in-place upgrade repair install won't help, suggest you're looking at a clean install.

 

W10 update/Loss of Drive partition. Has anyone had similar problem?

This is just coincidence that your disk drive is gone bad. Windows Updates don't touch anything on your Data drive. Try not to do anything with it such format etc...

1. Open the case and try to re-seat the cables connected to this disk, make sure they are tightly connected then try again.
2. If step 1 does not work, get some Partition Recovery software such as: Best Partition Recovery Software for Windows 10/8.1/7
