  1. Windows 11 Update corrupted OS, deleted my app icons, Fn hotkeys, and OSD

My computer which I've only had for like 6 months was forced into downloading/installing the latest Windows 11 update. After the computer restarted, all of my non-Microsoft app icons had disappeared. A quick online search suggested restoring to a previous save point. I performed this procedure and during rebooting I started getting error messages saying that the computer could not restart properly and offered "Retry" or "advanced troubleshooting" option. After a few failed reboots, I selected troubleshooting and selected the top left box that offered to fix problems. That seemed to wo

  2. Brightness Action Keys (Fn+F3 and Fn+F4) stopped working since recent Windows update HP ProBook 440 G5.

I recently updated my Windows 10 (64-Bit) 22H2. The update also updated my BIOS.

Ever since this update, Fn+F3 and Fn+F4 have stopped functioning as my brightness action key shortcuts (that reduce/increase my screen brightness).

I have tried the following to no avail:

    1. Updated all my device drivers (even the HP Hotkey Support - UWP)
    2. Upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11.
    However, the problem remains unresolved.

When I was on Windows 10, every time I pressed Fn+F3 or Fn+F4, it would show me an empty popup titled "HP Hotkey Support" with an OK button. On Windows 11, it doesn't show that popup either.

Any ideas how I can get my brightness action keys working again?

Deleted icons stay on desktop (not in desktop folder)

I can only suggest that you
1 Add a list of steps you have already taken.
2 Add a comment about restarting the computer. Do the deleted icons disappear then?
2 Add a comment explaining if any Desktop items do delete correctly and whether or not there are any significant differences between those that do delete correctly and those that don't.
3 Add a list of any OS tweaks you have done & any third-party OS-related utilities you have run.

I assume you have already reinstalled your display driver.
I don't see a Repair install as being relevant. Repair Install - TenForumsTutorials
