Windows 10: Windows 11 update KB5021255 does not download or install from cataloge

My PC has been fine with updates until the end of 2022. It is now refusing to go past 5% downloaded in updates and with the msu from the catalogue, it isn't going past a fifth for the install on the progress bar.I have tried to resolve this myself by doing some of the usual fixes such as deleting the SoftwareDistribution folder and restarting the services but this seems to have caused more problems this time as some icons for programs that are stored on my D:\ are now occasionally appearing as a white file but the program runs fine.Appreciate the support in advice.

Download and Install Windows Update from Microsoft Update Catalog


Another way:
Download WHDownloader (Windows Hotfix Downloader) 2.2
Unzip to desktop or where ever then run.

1. Download the KB's list from catalog. Should run when starting the program to get the latest list.
2. Select Office/Windows edition
3. Put check mark(s) to select the KB's
4. Download Updates.

NOTE: The KB's with huge file size are normally the cumulative updates from one version to next. If you are currently running 1607 then you'd need to run the KB for 1073 first then run the next one (1709), The rest of the KB's are security updates, Flash Updates etc...

 

Windows 11 - installed update 22H2 (KB5021255) and my 2x external monitors stopped being detected

I've been a Windows 10 user for a long time. I recently bought a new laptop, here's my setup now:

• Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon, 12th Gen Intel i7
  
• Intel Iris Xe Graphics card (came in the laptop)
  
• Laptop arrived preinstalled with Windows 11
  
• Also a Lenovo Thunderbolt 4 docking station
  
• 2x external monitors (a Dell and an Asus), one connected by displayport, the other by HDMI, both running through the docking station (along with keyboard/mouse/and a couple of other USB connected items)
  

The monitors worked absolutely perfectly with Windows 11. They were auto-detected correctly and worked flawlessly.

A few weeks into the new setup, a mandatory update was downloaded an installed: "2022-12 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5021255)"

As soon as that finished, Windows 11 could no longer detect either of the external monitors. I tried re-installing specific monitor drivers, and also reinstalling the graphics driver, but nothing fixed it.

Then I rolled back the update (KB5021255), and the two monitors immediately worked completely fine again. So it's definitely something in that update (KB5021255) that's breaking the ability to detect external monitors.

Windows 11 is pressing me to reinstall that update, but I really don't want to go through that again. Is this a known issue with that specific update? Are there any recommended solutions for this specific situation?
