    Windows 11 update reboots are disabled. It rebooted anyway losing a day's work!!!Disabled in gpedit.msc, confirmed in the registry. System was doing a 15 hour FEA task and it rebooted - that's a lot of wasted work lost for an unnecessary patch. How can I stop this cancer from happening?????

    FIXED!! Windows 7 sp1 never ends searching for updates

    Ok I did another reboot, disabled windows update service, did step 3 again, this time it installed an update, enabled windows update service and did a reboot and voila!! *Peace Windows 11 update reboots are disabled.  It rebooted anyway losing a day's work!!! :peace:

    I thought it was set to reboot next day as default...mine is..I hated it when it used to reboot without telling me..

    This may solve the problem:

    How to permanently stop Windows 10 reboots after installing updates

    In short:

    • From Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Task Sheduler, disable the task Microsoft > Windows > UpdateOchrestra > Reboot.
    • Rename the file C:\Windows\System32\Tasks\Microsoft\Windows\UpdateOrchestrator\Reboot to Reboot.bak and create a folder named Reboot in its place.

    I tried a variation on this which after disabling the task involved changing the file permissions on the Reboot file, which worked but did not survive an update. Perhaps renaming it and creating a folder of the same name will...
