Windows 10: Windows 11 update turning on BitLocker

I have had multiple Windows 11 devices run an update that is causing BitLocker to ask for a recovery key on reboot. None of these devices had BitLocker turned on at any point. Luckily on the first two we had used Microsoft accounts to activate Office and I was able to find the recovery key in Azure Active Directory. They had been used for awhile before this occured. On a third device I had just logged the user into Office and restarted the the issue occured. There wasn't enough time for Azure Active Directory to pick up the recovery key. Need to turn off Bitlocker to install Windows 10

We suggest doing the following steps again to resolve the issue. To complete the procedure, make sure that you have the following information:

• You must be able to provide administrative credentials.
• The drive must be BitLocker-protected.

To suspend BitLocker Drive Encryption on an operating system drive, please follow the steps below:

• Click Start, click Control Panel, click
  System and Security, and then click BitLocker Drive Encryption.
• Click Suspend Protection for the operating system drive.
• A message is displayed, informing you that your data will not be protected while BitLocker is suspended and asking if you want to suspend BitLocker Drive Encryption.
  
• Click Yes to continue and suspend BitLocker on the drive.

turning off Bitlocker in Windows 10, latest update

It doesn't necessary to turn off Bitlocker when updating BIOS, however, the Bitlocker key will not be recognized after you reboot your computer. Before updating the BIOS, we suggest checking first the solution provided by
Andre Da Costa from this
link to resolve the shut down issue.

If the solution provided didn't resolve the issue, and you really need to update the BIOS, please see the steps below on how to suspend the BitLocker:

• Press Windows key. Type Control Panel, then hit
  Enter.
  
• Select System and Security.
  
• Select BitLocker Drive Encryption.
  
• Select Suspend Protection.
  
• Once the BitLocker is already suspended, you may proceed with the BIOS update.

Note: You don't have to turn off the BitLocker to update the BIOS, you may just suspend its protection.

Turn of Bitlocker

I have an external USB drive encrypted with Bit locker

Was able to access it just fine with the password

Choose the “turn off BitLocker” option

It went through the steps of decrypting

The drive disappeared from the file manager when it returned it was still locked and the password I used prior no longer works from the command line. It says I have the wrong password

If I choose "Unlock Drive" from windows OS I get "The BitLocker Encryption on This Drive isn't Compatible with Your Version of Windows try a newer version"

• I have tried on three machines and still no luck
