Windows 10: Windows 11 Upgrade Issue: Unsupported CPU Error on vCenter VMs

We have already installed several Windows 11 VMs in our vCenter environment. However, when attempting to upgrade a Windows 10 VM to Windows 11, we encounter an error stating that the CPU is not supported. This is confusing because the CPU in question, the Intel® Xeon® Gold 6226R Processor, is listed as supported for Windows 11. Additionally, creating a brand-new VM with the same CPU works without any issues.I'm trying to avoid using the workaround involving registry adjustments.Has anyone faced a similar issue or have any suggestions? For reference, I've already enabled the vTPM chip, Secure B

Windows 11 Upgrade - incorrect unsupported CPU advice

On Windows upgrade Health check it advises that the CPU is unsupported (only issue), however when I look up the list of supported CPU's the CPU is listed as supported - it is an Intel Core i5-7300U *** Email address is removed for privacy ***, what can i do to upgrade?

 

Not able to upgrade to Windows 11 due to unsupported CPU

Hi Everyone,

I have an AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1900x 8-core CPU. It surpasses all the Windows 11 requirements but My PC health check still shows not able to upgrade due to an unsupported CPU. The PC meets all other requirements

• secure boot
  
• TPM2.0 enabled
  
• 40GB system RAM
  
• 240 GB SSD
  
• 8 Core

Upgrading VM to Windows 10, install fails with Error 0xc1900101 0x20017 Error in phase safe_os

Some blogs say, that for later updates some computers need a bios update.

So in the case examined here, the solution was to upgrade the virtual hardware version.
(I don't know how to do it in VMWare Workstation, but for vsphere the steps where as following.)

In vsphere Client:

1. don't know if required, but: uninstall vmware tools from windows host
   
2. shutdown the VM (and backup/clone)
   
3. then rightlick on the VM and select "Upgrade of virtual hardware" (or something like this)
   
4. start the VM and start the upgrade
   

(In this case we updated from hardware version 9 to 11 in vcenter/vsphere 6)
