Windows 10: Windows 11 upgrade unable to verify my fingerprint

By the time I upgraded to windows 11, I can no longer login using my fingerprint. I'm having an error saying that it won't recognize my fingerprimt. I want to use them again. How do I do that??

Windows Hello Fingerprint issue

We understand that you are unable to use Windows Hello Fingerprint to sign in to Windows. It would be great if you can reply with the details requested below:

• When you say, “I am not getting the option to log-in into windows using fingerprint.” What login options do you see on the login screen?
  
• What happens when you try to use the Windows Hello Fingerprint scanner to login to Windows?
  
• Were you able to use the Windows Hello Fingerprint to login to Windows earlier?
  

Ideally, on the login screen, you will see Sign-in options that allows you to use different sign-in methods to login to Windows.



As you have mentioned that you are able to use the Fingerprint scanner on websites, I would suggest you to refer the steps mentioned below and see if that helps:

1. On the login screen, click on Sign-in options.
   
2. Click on the Fingerprint icon, scan the Fingerprint, and see if you are able to sign in.

If the issue persists, try removing the Fingerprint and add it again. Refer the steps mentioned below:

1. Press Windows key + I, to open
   Settings.
   
2. Click on Accounts and click on
   Sign-in options on the left pane.
   
3. Now, click on Windows Hello Fingerprint and click on
   Remove.
   
4. Follow the on-screen instructions to remove the Fingerprint.
   
5. Once done, click on Set up and follow the on-screen instructions to add the Fingerprint.

After Windows 10 update, fingerprints cannot be verified.

I'm using a Dell Vostro 3560. I have been using Windows 10's fingerprint scanner for months now without any issues until yesterday's Windows Update. Now, when I login with a fingerprint it shows "Your credentials could not be verified" and I have to type
my password.

• I have removed my old fingerprints and set up the whole thing all over again.
• I have restarted the laptop.
• I have reset my account password.
• My laptop is online and I have successfully login to the same account using the new password via my browser so I know my account's security info have synchronized.

However, when I set up my fingerprints again (third time), I get a message "That fingerprint is already set up on this account. Try a different finger." so I know there is nothing wrong with the scanner or the drivers. Yet, when I lock my laptop and want
to unlock it with that same finger ("...that is already set up") I get a "Your credentials could not be verified" message.

This only happened after the last Windows Update.

• How can I fix the fingerprint login?

 

Fingerprint removed during upgrade and i can't login !!

I suggest you to login to the guest account and update the drivers for fingerprint by following the steps below and check if it helps.

• Press Windows key + R and type “devmgmt.msc” and press Enter.
• Right click on the driver for Fingerprint and select the option to update the driver and follow the prompts to update.
