Windows 10: Windows 11 When clicking on a zip file just once it crashes my file explorer

I noticed that a lot of people has been having trouble with it including me, people are using a more powerful computer than me and there also having the same problem. Also, its been happening since I got windows 11, is there like an update that I have to do to resolve this issue? Yes in this example I accidentally double clicked but it still does it when I click on it one time.

I also don't have Carbonite installed, and my Dell Windows 11 File Explorer Crashes also when I Right-Click on Zipped Files. Please advise the fix. Thanks.

I suggest you to follow the below steps and check if it helps.

  Type Default programs
  in the search bar and press enter
  
• 
  Click on choose default programs by file type
  
• 
  Select .zip
  and select File Explorer

Windows 11 zipped folders / files immediately crashes File Explorer

I've been having the same problem. Any time I click on a .zip file, attempt to open it, or do anything with a window that contains a .zip file, File Explorer crashes and takes all my open FE windows with it.

The only way I can do anything with .zip files is to launch 7-Zip separately and navigate to the .zip file through the 7-Zip UI. Once I've unzipped the file, I can work with that folder window without problems.

Any idea what's causing this? I've used .zip files for years in Windows 10 with zero problems. Seems like a random thing to go wrong with Windows 11.

I've applied all available Windows updates.
