Windows 10: Windows 11 will not allow editing of previous search in explorer search box Answered.

Using the mouse to select a previous search and then trying to edit it is not possible while looking for a work around and not finding one other than a similar closed question with an answerer that did not help on this forum. I found that using the arrow keys to select the search term instead of the mouse, Then allows you to edit the text in the search box in my case only needing to change the last letter of a long part number this has saved me a lot of time.

Win 10 not allowing text in Settings and Explorer search boxes.

Hi,

I have Win 10 Pro 21H1 29/4/22 OS Build 19043.1706 Win Feature pack 120.2212.4170.0

On a Dell T7500 Workstation.

When I try to add text to the Explorer Search box, I am unable. There is no reaction at all, the cursor is there though.

The search facility itself does work . If I paste or use a previous search still in the dropdown, it does go look but won't allow extra text.

Any suggestions please?

Which instructions are you suggesting I missed? There is no search icon. Right clicking the taskbar shows no search option. The "small characters" or icons trick did nothing. The regedit thing:
Follow these steps to turn on the hidden search box:

• Open regedit
• Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search
• Inside the search key, create the new DWORD value named EnableSearchBox and set it to 1
• Restart your computer or simply Explorer Shell

Did not give me a search option that I can find.

So in at least MY version of windows 10 there is no search box I can find that will allow me to search my own computer to find possible misplaced files.

So what are the instructions?

Are you meaning that once you type in Search box on IE 11, you see Search Suggestions appear?

Do you see the option to Turn Off Search Suggestions at the bottom of the list?
