Windows 10: Windows 11: Windows Update wakes up the PC from standby, then restarts the PC

This is clearly a bug or mischievous behavior:On my Windows 11 PC, Windows Update wakes up the PC from standby, then restarts the PC to keep it running the whole night.1. Windows should not power on the PC or wake the PC from standby without me having a say.2. Windows Update clearly chose the non-active hours to do the restart, so the PC would run the whole night through. Will MS pay my electricity bill?3. Windows should not turn off / restart the PC on its own, with my work not getting saved.I had previously spent quite some time to disable hardware from waking my PC. I know it was Windows Up

PC Fails to Standby

I've come across this issue in recent weeks...of course I've been super busy so I would've posted sooner but I'm looking for some suggestions.

I usually just put my PC in Standby mode, have for a looooong time now. And about a month ago or so, I noticed that my PC was shutting down instead of going into standby mode, with that coming up with the Windows Shut Down Improperly do you want to start in Safe Mode prompt every startup after I attempt standby mode.

Weird thing is, my Mouse and KB light up when I try to wake up my PC. So I'm not sure if this is an HW or SW issue. I've tried a few tricks, cleared bios, ran stock, oc'd, tried different mouse and kb, tried windows patches, removed programs, cleaned vid drivers, etc. Not sure what the hell is up...and I'm about ready to format and reinstall windows 7...I've never come across this issue before, and it seems there's a million answers from years ago, not as much recently, and nothing has done anything to resolve my issue. I guess if you guys have some suggestions let me know...I plan on smoking through a reinstall this weekend if I can't get it sorted....pain in the ass because this install isn't but several months old as-is and there is NOTHING else wrong with my PC.

Do you have "allow this device to wake this pc from standby" enabled for you mouse and keyboard in Device Manager? If so, disable them (waking your pc up with the power button). My pc acts weird too if I have it enabled.

 

Windows Update keeps failing!

Hi,

I had once a similar issue like yours, i.e. not able to update Windows 7. What I did to solve the problems is:

- go to control panel, then to "Troubleshouting" > "System and Security" > "Fix problems with Windows update" > click "Advanced" > choose "Apply repairs automatically".

And Windows will start detecting the issues and will repair "Windows update components". The problems should be fixed now, close the program, restart the PC, and see if the mentioned steps have fixed the problems you mentioned.
