Windows 10: Windows 11 with US Keyboard and Portuguese ABNT layout is wrong

I have a laptop with a US keyboard and sometimes I have to write content in Brazilian Portuguese.On Windows 10 and earlier versions, I could simply select the Portuguese Brazil ABNT layout and the keys would be mapped perfectly to the US keyboard. However, on Windows 11 the behavior of Portuguese Brazil ABNT changed and is now exactly the same as Portuguese Brazil ABNT2, which is incorrect.Is there any workaround to this bug?What is the ETA for a bug fix?

This suggests to me that you are using the wrong "keyboard language" for your keyboard, and that therefore you first step would be to determine exactly what language keyboard you have. Possibly have a look at Windows Keyboard Layouts - Globalization | Microsoft Docs.

(The age of any laptop capable of running Windows 10 at all should not be a problem as regards keyboard layout)

 

I have downloaded the language bar - I have Portuguese Brasil ABNT and Portuguese Brasil ABNT2 - and have made Portuguese my default language.

In my old HP computer I was able to use the keybord to write in Portuguese using the appropriate acents.

Now, even tough I have downloaded the language bar - I have Portuguese Brasil ABNT and Portuguese Brasil ABNT2 - and have made Portuguese my default language.

I cannot write anymore, the keyboards do not follow the same pattern as before and even when I google for advice it tells me to do the same combination of keys I used before - Ctrl Shift and the appropriate keys for the various acents - but they simply do
not work.

 

Wrong keyboard layout in login page after update to 1607

Since the issue reoccurred after updating to anniversary update, I suggest you to reconfigure the QWERTY keyboard layout and check if the same issue persists. This is to check if the issue is with Windows 10 1607 update.

I suggest you to follow the steps below to configure the keyboard layout:

• Open Settings and click on Time and Language.
• Click on Region and Language.
• Add the Country and click on add a language and select the language of your choice.
• This will take time to download the pack.
• Once this is done, Press Windows key + Space and press Space key to choose the keyboard layout.
