Windows 10: Windows 11 Won't Connect to Windows 10 Shared Printer

I have a Windows 10 Pro machine trying to add a shared printer on a Windows 10 Pro machine. I am able to see the shared printer but When I try to connect it either says it can't find the printer or I get a general failure error with code 0x000004cf. The host Windows 10 machine is on version 21H2 and is current on all updates including drivers. The windows 11 machine is on version 22H2 and is current on all update including drivers. The host has 2 shared printers and I get the same errors no matter which I try to add. I have tried a variety of 'fixes' that I've found but nothing seems to work.

Yeah, I have windows firewall disabled, and I don't use any other firewall... mostly to prevent stupid issues like this.

Step 2: Buy a less shitty printer.
Step 3: Pick up some beer while you are there.
Step 4: Enjoy both your new printer and your beer.

In all seriousness, I have had more issues with Lexmark printers and their shitty drivers then any other manufacturer, HP is a close second though.

However, if you don't want to get a new printer*Laugh :laugh:, and I can understand that, when my Lexmark was giving me the same troubles in Win7(and Vista) I had to make sure the Windows firewall was ON and the firewall service was enabled and running. After I shared it I could re-disable the firewall and firewall services.

 

sharing a printer through wifi connection

I'm trying to share a printer (canon mp730) through a wifi network. My computer (windows vista) is connected to the printer directly. The other computer is windows xp.

When I'm working on the xp machine and press "print", it opens a dialog box and form there I select "find printer". When I click on that, it shows me the printer connected to the Vista machine select print, I get a warning message saying "you are about to install a printer driver on your machine...blah blah". I click "yes" on that and then get a message saying that the server for the printer does not have the correct printer driver installed. What to do? It seems like I've got the latest driver for the mp730 installed on both machines.
