    Windows 1511 upgrade problem

Hi, I bought recently laptop with Windows 10 pre-installed on it. Last week I've tried to install 1511 upgrade, but it got stuck at about 23% so I decided to postpone it and to do this upgrade overnight since I heard that it takes lot of time. Now, however I keep getting this message. I've tried to do both manual and automatic restart, but nothing happened and I still see this message. Is it some bug or I'm doing something wrong?

Maybe Windows 10 Version 1511 upgrade will solve my problem. How do I apply this version 1511 upgrade to my windows 7 machine?

UPDATED 11/24: Looks like Version 1511 Fall Update has been pulled from Downloads

Considering all the problems people have getting version 1511 installed thru Windows Update, and the almost all the answers to the problems are to do the upgrade from getting the download via the Media Creation Tool, this pretty much removes the only way
for those to install the upgrade.

Another thing that's good about having the MCT to access the upgrade is that in cases of the Windows Update screws up the system, there is a way to install the system from scratch, directly to the "upgrade to" version - this is also a way to verify, if run
into trouble updating/upgrading, that if a direct install method works. This helps my case with the 1511 upgrade to confirm that 1511 upgrade breaks some part of the HID touch screen by doing upgrade from 10240 and install directly with 1511 MCT USB - both
    behave the same problem.

Nothing, it just restarts without installing an upgrade

Upgrade @ 23% failing is a problem with installing drivers during setup.

On laptops it may be worsened by the processor overheating and shutting down. Clean the airways, fans, and remove lint from heat exchanger fins ( & preferably with new thermal paste to processor/heatsink interfaces) and use supplementary airflow (external fan) during upgrade.

The following measures are to help Windows Setup from discovering devices which it may have difficulty obtaining the correct drivers for, or from attempting to download any updates to drivers it may have found on your earlier system during the appraisal phase.

Before running the upgrade, make sure that all your drivers/devices in device manager are either not showing warnings, by using the right drivers, or are disabled if no good driver can be found.

All peripherals or USB storage are best totally removed.

Remove battery, and run from OEM power supply.

I usually copy the contents of the setup ISO to a folder on the hard drive, and run setup from there, and make sure the optical drive tray is open during install, disabling it.

It is preferable to clean boot using MSConfig to stop all 3rd party startups and disconnect from Internet/disable Wi-Fi before upgrading.

Stop real-time protection from Antivirus/antimalware utilities.

Do not try to upgrade from a safe boot.

Start upgrade setup with administrative privileges.

None of the problems you've listed are applicable to my case as my laptop is brand new-I bought it less than two weeks ago. Besides I did not left it for a long time to know if it indeed got stuck at 23% or at some other percentage. I'm not a IT specialist to mess with all this stuff you're suggesting, but thanks anyway for advice.

The best advice I can give then, is return the Laptop to the supplier as a dud, because it should not have an upgrade failure due to drivers. Your model has been knocking around awhile if it is trying to upgrade to 1511, which unsurprisingly was released November 2015.

Thanks, I certainly am not going to return it since otherwise it works excellent. The model btw is HP Pavilion 15 ak000nj. Seems it's not so old

Difficult not to be technical, but if you want to get your machine upgradeable again, which seems to be the very nature of Windows 10, see this Tutorial on Tenforums:

Windows Update - Reset in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

This is because you have a failed update - in this case your upgrade to 1511 - which may possibly cause subsequent updates to fail.

There may be other remedial work to do besides, once the Windows updates have been reset.

Thanks for suggestion! I think they are dealing only with hardware problems, but still it's worth trying

It is a hardware problem - the drivers for your hardware are stalling the upgrade setup program. Your contract with HP is for the complete product, OEM OS and all the hardware.

Again I'm not sure whether it really stuck at all as I run it for may be 15 minutes, saw quite a slow progress (it reached 23 % or may be even more, don't remember for sure) and decided to do it at a later time, but now it has no install option at all...
