Windows 10: Windows 1909 KB4586786 Bug effecting direct input. Also effects base 2004

Hi,


Several months ago I updated all my machines to 2004 feature update and discovered that direct input no longer worked tested using wireless xbox one controllers. I reverted back to 1909 and everything was fine. I have recently tried to use direct input again needed for more than 4 player games and it has stopped working.


I looked through the list of KB updates and have seen that KB4586786 fixes some security vulnerabilities for input devices so uninstalled this update and it all worked again. I would like to report this bug as this is a major feature requirement for me so now need to block all security updates until this is resolved.


This bug is confirmed on Surface Book 2 and multiple custom build desktops, all using wireless xbox one controllers and on games 'Chalo Chalo' and 'Pummel Party' through Steam.

As initial troubleshooting steps I suggest you to install the latest windows 10 updates, please follow the steps to install all the windows updates.

If you want to check for the update now, select the Start button, then select
Settings > Update & security >
Windows Update > Check for updates.

We suggest you to try changing the visual effect setting. To Change your Visual Effects Settings in Advanced System Settings refer the below steps,

  Press Windows logo key+ X
  
• 
  Click on Control panel
  
• 
  Select System and Security
  
• 
  Click on System
  
• 
  And select System protection
  
• 
  Select Advanced tab and click on
  Settings
  
• 
  Now select the option Let Windows choose what’s best for my computer
  option.
  

And check if this helps to resolve the issue.
