Windows 10: WINDOWS 1909 RANDOM FREEZE AND BLACK SCREEN JULY 2020

Hi,

I know there are few posts about this topic already but I cannot seem to find any kind of solutions at all to save my life. This issue started after I updated my laptop to Windows version1903 and now 1909. Whenever my laptop is on idle, or when I do light browsing such as emails, YouTube etc, or even right after I turned on my laptop for 30 seconds, my laptop would freeze and I have to do a hard reboot every single time. Other than freezing, my laptop also having black screen issue. For example, I'm watching a video on YouTube and all of the sudden, my screen would go black as if it went to sleep and the lights on the keyboard would still light up. When I close the lid hoping that it would fix it the lights on my keyboard would eventually turn off except for some keys. And I can't press anything to "wake" the screen. I have to do a hard reboot as well when this happen.


I tried every solution that I can find on this forum and also on other sites but none of them worked. Even if it did, my laptop would work perfectly fine for about 3 or 4 days max before the issues come back. I even went to Bestbuy and had them reinstall a fresh Windows just in case the one I had was corrupted or whatever. Wasted 200 bucks for nothing. The issue came back less than 48 hours. None of the updates that Windows released had fixed my issues. Not to this day. I have this issue for so many months now and it's really frustrating that I can't use my laptop like everyone else. Mind you, my laptop is about 2 years old. Still pretty new. Please help. I've been having this issue close to a year now. It's ridiculous.


The laptop I'm using is MSI GS63 Stealth running GTX 1060 graphic card. I've updated every driver that I can and still won't solve this problem for me. I've tried sfc /scannow and find nothing. As well as dism /online / cleanup-image /restorehealth on the cmd. No luck.

BSOD, Black Screen, and General Freezing while gaming on Windows 10 1909

Recently I was sent a preinstalled Windows 10 Pro 1909 SSD, unable to reinstall different OS version or downgrade without voiding a warranty. Now, I am essentially stuck on Windows 10 1909 and while utilizing it I have run into a specific repeatable issue
that I have tried numerous strategies to repair with no success.

Specs:

• Alienware 17R4
  
• Windows 10 1909 Build 18363.657
  
• 256 GB NVMe M.2 SSD (OS Drive)
  
• 1TB HDD (Secondary Drive)
• Nvidia GTX 1080 (Notebook edition)
• Intel i7-7820HK CPU
• 16GB Memory

Problem: When playing any graphically demanding game (will list a few below), within ~5-20 minutes, the computer will Crash to BSOD (various errors/not consistent message), Crash to Black Screen, or just simply freeze; all of which require
a hard reboot of the device.

• Two of the BSOD errors [UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP and KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED].

Troubleshooting Attempts: Thus far I have tried the following to see what the issue might be

• Ran various hardware performance utilities to diagnose any current hardware issues (None found)
  
• Installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled different Nvidia graphics drivers (Same issue persists)
• Reinstalled fresh edition of Win 10 1909 OS (Same issue presists)
  
• Reinstalled fresh Nvidia driver (version 442.19) after Win 10 reinstall (Same issue persists)
  
• Installed only minimal software to replicate the problem (Steam with 1-3 games) (Same issue persists) [Game Examples: Assassins Creed Odyssey, The Witcher 3, Session, and Wolcen]
  • Was able to play a non-graphically demanding game (Roblox) without crashing
• Installed different gaming software to see if the issue was related to Steam - Blizzard Launcher+ Diablo 3 (Same issue persists)
• Tested if problem occurs while not gaming, running HD video, etc. (Issue does not occur); can run for hours or even days with no problem as long as games are not played

At this point, I am unable to determine the next best course of action to resolve this issue.

 

Black screen and Windows freezes

For black screen, I would suggest you to uninstall and reinstall display driver. Please follow these steps:

a. Press Windows + X keys and click device manager.

b. Click to expand display adapters, right click the adapter and click
uninstall.

Now, you may update display driver from the computer manufacturer's website and check.

For freezing issue, I would suggest you to run system maintenance troubleshooter
and check the issue. Please follow these steps.

a. Press Windows + W keys, type troubleshooting
in the search box and press Enter.

b. Click "View all" and then click "System Maintenance".

c. Click "Next" and follow on-screen instructions.

Windows freeze then black screen

Hi,

Since yesterday, Windows (x64 Pro) keeps freezing with a black screen while gaming (I have to do a forced restart or shutdown), at random intervals of time, sometimes I can play for about 5 minutes, other times for about 40 minutes, other times for even
more. Until yesterday I didn't had any problems with it. Beside what I did in the following list, is there anything else I could try to do to fix it?

What I tried:

- Running "sfc /scannow" command with admin rights;

- Running "Windows Memory Diagnostic";

- Reinstall the latest video driver;

- Running "Error checking" on all partitions;

- Removing temp files;

- Watching temps for both GPU and CPU, which both were at ~60 C (while gaming);

- Reducing GPU frequency by 25%.
