Windows 10: Windows 2004 update failure, Update Boot Code Error. What I've tried and what can I try next

I'm nearing 20 Hours in to trying to solve this issue. I've tried every top-level google search result troubleshooting to no avail including rebuildbcd and uninstalling suspect software. A clean reinstall is not an option at this time, I really need to get to the bottom of why this in-place upgrade isn't working. The main error is

Operation failed: Update Boot Code. Error: 0x80004005[gle=0x000000b7]

I had a hunch that Macrium Reflect may have been causing some issues, but I'm getting the same error after uninstall. I also cycled through every combination of CSM on/off and UEFI/Legacy boot mode options in bios that I could think of. My drive is fully backed up so there is nothing I can't try, if it gets nuked I can restore from image and try again.

Vista x64 won't download updates?

The last updates on my home desktop are dated 16th June.
I've powered it on some 3 or 4 times since then, but nothing was downloaded automatically as per settings.

I tried the manual update from the CP but I get an error code 80070002.

I did the troubleshooting suggested (i.e. stop the Windows Update service, delete the temporary update files, restart the Windows Update service, and then try to check for Windows updates again) but I still keep getting the same error code, even after rebooting *Confused

What gives?

Guys I've tried everything I can think of to get this update to install... I keep getting this error message:

Code 80070490

Any ideas?

 

Who has seen this vista update error

When you go to Windows vista update and it tell you to update a driver that you have already updated. Then it says failed to update and gives you the error code that tell you that you already have a never version than that. WTF? Why in the world would it be trying to updated something with an older driver. Well the only way to get it out of your windows update list is to go uninstall what ever that driver is then run the update and install it. Then run the newer drivers again.

Well I still can't get the Nivida Network Bridge to disappear out of the list. I uninstall the one in device manager and go to the update and before it's even done with that. Vista is automatically installing a newer version than is in the Vista update list.......
