Windows 10: Windows 20H2 issues with Start Menu etc,

Since upgrading to 20H2 from 1903, I have been having trouble with things, I can't find any results on fixes anywhere.


Firstly, my Start menu seems to become very buggy, If I click it to open a program for example Gyazo and while Gyazo will open, theStart menu stays open and ends up blocking what I need to screenshot.

This happens quite often and can sometimes happen when opening the Start menu to quickly search for an item. The search window and result will open but theStart menu won't automatically close, it stays open and blocks the search results.

Another issue I found is sometimes I will need to go into Network & Internet and clickChange Adapter Options, this used to open a minimized window which was great, but now this minimized window opens behind and working with multiple monitors having to go down to taskbar to click twice for it to appear in front can be frustrating.

I'm not sure if the 20H2 update caused these issues or if I accidentally changed a setting. I am running multiple monitors and my specs are:

• Edition Windows 10 Pro
• Version 20H2
• Installed 08/‎11/‎2020
• OS build 19042.630
• Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.31.0

I hope this is an issue that can be resolved relatively easy.

Windows 20H2 Domain Join breaks Start Menu

Upon doing a recovery of a system to start with a clean slate, it now installs 20H2. All looks good. Start menu and taskbar look normal.

We then join it to our domain. Upon reboot, the start menu will not show the applications list. No option to expose it. Start menu settings shows "Show app list in start menu" greyed out. Trying to log out shows as the only option "Change Account Settings"
Right clicking on taskbar, the task manager is greyed out. We checked the GPO for the start menu app list removal and it is listed as "not configured". Tried setting the local policy to different settings with no effect.

Read thru the event viewer and nothing jumped out as related.

All very strange. We are a hospital that has been running this AD schema for a number of years. It is based on Windows Server 2012 R2. We have over 250 systems with multiple levels of windows 10 Pro systems in production, with none of them showing these
behaviors. At this point, 20H2 is unusable for us.

 

Windows Start issue

Try this:

Right click on your start menu, and click on System:





When the system window comes up, click on Advanced System Settings:




There, click on Startup and Recovery:




Then in the top menu you will have a choice of OSs. Select the one you want to boot to defaultly and uncheck the box for "Time to display list of operating systems."




That should make it boot into Windows 10 without your intervention.
