Windows 10: Windows 23h2 update cause network to stop working

Since installing Windows 11 23h2: Network stopped working . I changed the lan adapter back to private from public. This got the internet working and VNC but still no connection to Windows 10 computer. The computer name shows up in explorer but when when I click on it I get "Windows cannot access LAPTOP". The same the other way windows 10 computer to windows 11 23h2 . Time to go back to Windows 10 on all where everything was working fine.Thanks,Jason.

A problem with the Windows 11 23H2 update.

Hi, I just had a couple of doubts...

1. With the steps given which W11 update will it give? Is it going to give the 22H2 or 23H2?
2. Currently for some reason I'm not able to get any updates for W11. Are they giving W11 22H2 or 23H2? Cause with 22H2 I had no issues. 23H2 had issues when upgrading from windows 10.

 

Windows update caused my keyboard to stop working

The keyboard failure probably happened coincidentally with the update rather than being caused by it. You can find out like so:

• Turn the machine on.
• Wait until the spinning circle appears, then press the power button for 10 seconds to turn the laptop off.
• Repeat the above steps three times. This will get you into Repair Mode.
• Go to advanced options, then select the Command Prompt.
• Check each and every keyboard key.

I think you will find that the problem keys still do not work, even though the current mode is not affected by the recent update. You probably have to replace the keyboard.

 

After the 23h2 update, the usb ports do not work

The issue you're describing suggests that the Windows 23H2 update may have caused some sort of conflict with the drivers for your USB ports, touchpad, and keyboard within the Windows operating system itself, given that they work outside of the OS environment (in BIOS and on a live USB running Ubuntu).

Here's a step-by-step process to try and fix the issue:

1. Restart your laptop and as soon as it starts booting up, start pressing the F11 key (or the key that your laptop uses to trigger the recovery environment, which might be F2 or F8 as you've mentioned).
   
2. If you can't get into the recovery environment using the function keys, you may need to create a Windows recovery drive from another Windows PC and boot from that.
   

Once in the Windows Recovery Environment:

1. Navigate to Troubleshoot.
   
2. Go to Advanced Options.
   

In Advanced Options, you can try the following:

1. Choose Uninstall Updates.
   
2. Select Uninstall latest quality update or Uninstall latest feature update depending on what is shown to you. Since 23H2 is a feature update, you would likely need to choose the latter.
   

If for some reason, you are unable to uninstall the update through the GUI, you can attempt to do so using the Command Prompt.

1. Go back to Advanced Options.
   
2. Select Command Prompt.
   

Once in the Command Prompt, you can try the following commands to remove the update:

1. Type C: or D: (or whichever drive your Windows is installed on) and press Enter.
   
2. Type dir and press Enter to confirm you're on the correct drive (look for Windows directories).
   
3. Type the following command to list all installed packages:
   
   
   Replace C:\ with your Windows installation drive if it's different.
   
4. Find the package name for the update you wish to remove (it should contain the version number 23H2 in it).
   
5. Type the following command to remove the package:
   
   
   Replace PackageName with the actual name of the update package you found in the previous step.
   

After removing the update package, type exit to close the Command Prompt, then select Continue to restart your computer. Hopefully, the system will boot up without the update and your devices will be working again.

If none of these steps work, you may have to consider other recovery options such as:

• System Restore: If you have a system restore point set before the update, you can go back to it.
  
• Reset this PC: This will give you the option to keep your files but it will remove all apps and settings.
  
• Clean Installation: As a last resort, you can perform a clean install of Windows, which will erase all data on the primary drive.
