Civilization IV game no longer works for Windows 8.1 or Windows 10

I too experienced this issue starting after the Windows 8.1 update around Sept 10.

Upgrading from Civ4 BTS 3.17 to 3.19 fixed the issue for me.

This would have been an acceptable hiccup when moving from Windows 7 to 8.1, or from 8.1 to Windows 10, but it really isn't OK for a minor patch that users are expected to adopt without question.

Adobe Acrobat 7 and Windows 10

Having read all the problems people have experienced in upgrading to Windows 8 from 7, or when getting the 8.1 upgrade, I am wondering if it is worth risking upgrading from 7 to 10 and losing the ability to run Acrobat 7. It's an old program but it works
fine on Windows 7. Has anyone else upgraded from 7 to 10 with this or an older version of Adobe Acrobat, and did it still work? I have always resisted upgrades in the past, only reluctantly moving from XP to 7 after avoiding the 'dogs' in between. Then when
on Windows 7, I resisted upgrading to 8 or 8.1 because they too were 'dogs'.

well as soon as MS realizes that people do not like the NSA.. Privacy is a BIG issue..

Hmm.. If the NSA really wanted to get any of your information they can and they don't need MS to get the job done.

Hum, kind of like going to war against a well armed 7 and 8.1 with a knife. Maybe MS should help those of us with driver problems; can't install Win 10 due to some mysterious driver.

What people? Majority do not even know about privacy, only like 1% of 1% following tech websites.
Privacy triangle would not be accepted by anyone. Max privacy = min functionality and min easy-to-use.

  12. Did Win8 ever have any users?

Windows 7 rocks and I am hoping Windows 10 will eventually get to rock too. There are already ways to stop the M$ people peeking into our private computer lives. Hopefully M$ will realize these 'features' are counter-productive and we will end up with a great Win10 version.

if they do not know what your doing or what you like to do, how they gonna know what ad's to put where ??
that why they track you - advertising ...

they gave you the OS so you could purchase subscriptions to Apps..

If I want to see ads - I watch TV if I want to hear ads, I'll listen to the radio..

Nothing more annoying then ads downloading and playing a movie - while your reading the news..

And to make matters worst is MS is now pushing the same windows 10 Telememtry to windows 7 / 8 / 8.1 users..

  15. Already, another thread is degrading into Privacy Issue disputes -- sorry state of affairs for what used to be a stellar forum...

Is ANYONE surprised by the rapid adoption rate of Win10? MS pushed it to folks -- so they didn't have to track it down and manually download it. MS made it available for free -- so folks wouldn't even have to pay the $40 that Win8 cost. And MS's own Compatibility Checker told nearly everyone that their old PCs were 100% compatible with Win10. And, the Upgrade tool told everyone that they could easily get their old, working, version of Windows back.

With a sales campaign like this, only a very small minority of the existing Win7/8/8.1 community would refuse the Upgrade.

So, a media announcement like the title of this thread is basically "non-news".
