Windows 10: Windows 7 activation

i want to activate my desktop windows 7 professional but the website is giving me an error message failing to connect to online activation. How can i overcome this?

Activating Windows 7

I have a product key for my old Windows 7 and want to upgrade. I cannot find "activate windows now" as listed in step 1 on the instructions Product activation for Windows – online & support telephone numbers .

I need to activate this legit product. I used to long time without activating apparently.
