  1. Windows 7 folder on desktop

I have read elsewhere that installing Windows 10 top of Windows 7 results in a windows.old folder, which does seem to exist on my computer.

Instead, I have, on the desktop, a folder, Windows 7, which seems to contain many of the files, etc., perhaps all such data, that were in Windows 7, such as all of the folders under Documents. I just looked at Documents in the Windows 7 folder, which even shows a file that I put into Documents in Windows 10 on 3August2015. In fact, looking at the folder,it looks just like what I see when I use the Windows 10 File Explorer from the icon on the task bar.

I am loath to delete the Windows 7 folder, as I don't know what would happen if I did so; I await information about this from anyone who has the information pertaining to that folder.

    :)

Lost files after I upgraded to Windows 10

Everything looks normal after I upgraded.

I do found the old files in the "desktop" folder in the folder called windows 7.

I then cut all the files in that folder to the new desktop folder in windows 10.

However, after I restarted my computer, all the files that have shown up on the desktop of windows 10 are gone.

And I cannot find any file in either the desktop folder of windows 7 or the desktop folder of windows 10.

Where can I find those files? I am typing these with tears in my eyes!

Can I get those files back if I restore to windows 7?

  3. Windows 7 Folder on Desktop

Just got an email from the Community about the lack of any input to this thread; one option, which I accept, is to ask for further help. I had expected Diyva M, the MS Engineer, to have responded by now; after all, this must be the most important matter
with which she (my assumption about the first name) is involved.

I wold, obviously, accept help from anyone who has anything to add to assist me. I am simply afraid, as it were, to delete the folder on either or both computers, having no idea of what might happen were I to do that.

    Windows 7 folder on desktop

If you can post a screen shot of your drive containing your OS so we can see what's on there that might help. But here is a tutorial on how to deleted Windows.old.. Windows.old Folder - Delete in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

When I did my upgrade from Win8.1 to 10 I deleted the windows.old and I didn't have any issues.

  5. Sorry, I don't know what you mean by a screen shot of the drive; I can do that, once I know what you are looking for. That is, what should I bring up to take the shot?.

I did find and delete Windows.old, which a search did not find, by looking in a list of all the files in C:\; thanks for the link to the tutorial, which saved me from searching for it. That did not, as I expected it would not, remove the Windows folder.

  7. An excellent telephone convesation with a MS Support agent determined that the folders on both computers can be safely removed. After doing so on my machine, I rebooted, just to check; that went properly, with no new Wndows 7 folder created.

Why this happened shall never be known, but at least this has been cleared up.
