Windows 7 Internet Explorer connected to home network but cannot display web pages

I have restored my laptop to its original condition and everything seems to be as new except Internet Explorer which gives me the error message that it cannot display the selected web page. The laptop is connected to the router and everything on the home network can access it, and vice versa.I have disabled the McAfee Security Suite and turned off private browsing but to no avail. The network diagnostic tool says that it could find no fault and running the laptop in safe mode makes no difference. Oddly, after changing the home web site to Google, the Google start page displayed and its search

    :)

Microsoft Internet Explorer renamed to Windows Internet Explorer ?

Windows 7 Internet Explorer connected to home network but cannot display web pages wie1.png

Since version 7 of the world`s most popular web browser - Microsoft Internet Explorer was silently renamed to Windows Internet Explorer.Such a step from Microsoft is not a surprise since Internet Explorer is part of the Windows operation system for a long time.Obviously Microsoft corp. wants to state that Internet Explorer is already considered as a part of Windows and not as an external browser (remember the IE and WMP law issues last year!?).

W10 can connect to wider internet but cannot access web pages

I have an odd issue with my W10 laptop linked to Sky broadband in the UK via wifi using a Sky router. The effect is that while I can actually access the internet (I can send and receive emails using Outlook and can connect to other machines using TeamViewer) I cannot access any web site (Google, BBC etc). There is no specific error message, merely that the access request timed out and a suggestion that it may be to do with proxy.

    I have tried the following:

    1. Other systems (W10 and ios) can access web sites using the same Sky router (therefore probably not a router problem)
    2. I have sent and received emails using Outlook, so the broadband connection is working (probably not a Sky problem)
    3. I have tried two different browsers (Firefox and Edge), no connection (not a browser problem)
    4. I am using Windows Defender and have:
      1. Made sure that Firefox is in the list of allowed systems in its Firewall, no connection after a reboot
      2. Turned off the Firewall and tried again - no connection
My next step will be to re-install Windows, but has anyone got any other suggestions? Could it be some sort of virus (I have carried out a complete virus check using Defender)

    So - any suggestions?

Internet Connection Sharing and Windows 7

O.K., I booted the dial up computer into Win 7 and connected to the internet, then went to the computer that is having the problem, fired up IE and searched for Google Chrome and the page did not load right. On the Chrome download page, the image that they have of YouTube was distorted. I refreshed, and it was still distorted. So, I rebooted the dial up computer into XP, connected to the internet and went back to my other computer and refreshed the page again. Still distorted. I closed IE and ran CCleaner which cleared the cache and cookies. Restarted IE performed the same search and page loads fine. (Still booted into XP on the dial up machine while I done this). So the problem only occurs when the dial up computer is booted into Windows 7 and doesn't go away until I use XP to connect to the internet and then clear the browser cache. Now, my daughter says that her computer (Win 7 Ult 64 bit), is starting to experience the exact same problem. Loads web pages fine when the XP system is connected, but has errors on web pages when Win 7 is used the make the internet connection. Something that I have not tried yet is to bring up a browser on the actual machine that connects to the internet to see how it acts. Will do that next.
