Windows 10: Windows 7 License activation with new mainboard/cpu/memory

It's been awhile since I did a fresh install so I would appreciate any feedback with the task. I have a current W10 digital license linked to my MS account from the original W7 retail copy I bought and did the free upgrade to W10. I have the current W10 USB media downloaded from MS and will be backing up all other relative data and drivers. Going from LGA1366 to LGA1200 which feels like a step back but the new i7 & Z590 will double the speed. The hardware should be easy enough it usually the drivers and software that like to complicate things. So my question is at the point of the activation process do you still have the option to proceed or skip it for later? I ask because there appears to be no definitive answer on if it will work without a $200.00US retail copy of W10. Which is not a problem I just would like to find out before I spend the extra $. Bonus, there is a Micro Center in town so I could take it back. Thank you for your consideration.

upgrading mainboard and CPU

This question is probably asked before, but I cannot find it.

I want to upgrade the mainboard and CPU and wonder if I can activate the Windows 10, which I used with the old mainboard, on the new mainboard/CPU?

I should add that the the Windows 10 running on the old motherboard was a free upgrade from a retail Windows 7 Home Premium. I still have the original Win 7 DVD with the product key.

 

Activate windows after new Mainboard+CPU

Hello Microsoft community,

i recently installed a new mainboard and CPU and soon i got asked to activate windows by the annoying notification in the bottom right.

now i bought a retail key which is supposed to be re-activatable but it wont let me for some reason use it anymore.

as i learned the Key is bound to hardware but im obviously not gonna revert to my old cpu+mb is there anything i can do except for buying a new key?

Swapping mainboards. Activation?

Hi, I'm getting a used mainboard that I need to test. I will put it temporarily in my PC, see if everything works, and then put the original mainboard back into the pc.

Will this affect the Windows product activation? Right now, Windows is telling me that it is activated with a digital license linked to my Microsoft account. Neither the new or the original mainboard have a license in the BIOS.
