Windows 10: Windows 7 product key is blurry - how to retrieve it

I use an old laptop with Windows 7 and I haven't upgraded as newer versions don't allow me to install this particular piece of software that I need. I recently re-install the windows to have it all fresh but my product key doesn't work. The last bit is a bit blurry and I have done some guessing trying different options with no luck. It's only a few characters that are slightly blurry so there's limited number of options and I think I have checked them all.Before I used to go on Microsoft site and it would identify and download the correct version of Windows, but that no longer works I guess d

Can I retrieve windows 7 product key with product ID?

Hi ,

I had a very old laptop which had windows 7 Ultimate system, I forgot to save the product key from my windows 7 and installed windows 10 Pro downloaded from Microsoft website but I still have my product ID from windows 7 ultimate. Is there a way I can retrieve the product key with my product ID?
If it can be retrieved can it still be used to activate my windows 10 which is currently not activated? (Keeping in mind windows 7 and 8 support has ended)

If it can be retrieved how and where can I do that?

Note: I no longer have windows 7 OS on my PC and the several steps given to find product key is not appliable in my case as those steps require me to be on windows 7 again.

Since its an old PC I don't have the original CD drive nor do I have any resources and backup for my Windows 7 ultimate OS

No; a Product ID does not help.

Since 7 is no longer installed, you need 7 to have been preinstalled by Dell, HP etc. for any chance to find the Key.

If OEM preinstalled (Dell, HP, etc.) license:

The COA sticker, which has the Product Key on it, is either on the underside of the Laptop or in the Battery Compartment.

With a Desktop it is either on the side, rear or top of the Computer Case.



Product Key finder programs do NOT find a useable product key on OEM preinstalled operating systems (Dell, HP, etc.)

Key Finder Programs used on preinstalled Operating Systems only find the Manufacturer's Product Key which was used on multiple machines during manufacture and what they find is not suitable to use for a reinstall or activation problems.

 

Retrieve Windows 7 product key

I have a Dell laptop which was purchased on 2012 and it was supplied with Windows 7 Home Basic 64 bit OS.

unfortunately i have upgraded my OS to Windows 8.1 Pro 32 bit OS without activating product key.

And now i m facing lot of malfunctions in my laptop, and i am trying to go back to Windows 7 Home Basic 64 bit OS again.

But Still i have problem because now i didn't have Original Windows 7 Home Basic 64 bit OS CD with me & the label pasted behind the laptop also was erased hence i couldn't get my product key. but i have all the bills and invoices received from the time of
purchase. Dell customer support directed to contact Microsoft to get the Original product key for Windows 7. Can anyone pl suggest what is the best way to get my Product key?
