  1. Windows 7 to Windows 10 - shortcut target paths changed

I've transferred my "C:\Users\USER\Documents" folder from a Windows 7 PC to the exact same path on a Windows 10 PC. These files include shortcuts to other files or folders that are also within that "C:\Users\USER\Documents" folder.

The problem is that on the new PC the shortcuts don't work anymore. If I look at the Properties of a shortcut on the new PC, I can see the problem is in the "Target" box. Instead of containing an address starting with "C:\Users\USER\Documents\", as it did on the old PC, it starts with "C:\Users\pc\Documents\".

I suspect this is because on the old PC the "main" or "administrator" user is "USER" whereas on the new PC it is "pc".

But whatever the cause, I want to find a way to make these shortcuts work without having to go and edit every single one. And to address the obvious answer without putting these files and folders into "C:\Users\pc\Documents".

If necessary, I can redo the transfer.

    Any ideas?

    :)

    Keyboard shortcuts to open programs:

Create a shortcut on the desktop to whatever program you want. Right click -> Properties and fill in the field there. Sadly the shortcut needs to remain on the desktop, but you can hide it.

Fun fact: If you had keyboard shortcuts for programs pinned to your Windows 7 start menu, those shortcuts still work when you update to Windows 10.

Windows 7 to Windows 10 - shortcut target paths changed

Edit App Tile Targets in Windows 8.1?

I have a client that caught a nasty piece of malware. It changed the targets on all the IE shortcuts so whenever you run IE it takes you to their website instead of the homepage set in IE's options(it did the same thing to chrome and firefox).

Fixing it on most of the shortcuts was easy. I just edited the target path by right clicking on the shortcut and going to properties and resetting it to the right path.

However, the shortcut/tile on the start screen for IE can't be edited in this way. When I right click on it there is no option to change the properties of the shortcut. I've search for a good hour trying to figure out how to edit the properties of these shortcuts/tiles but I can't find it anywhere. I even went as far as uninstalling IE and re-installing it, and the icons it put back are still pointing to the wrong path.

Anyone have any clue how to change the path for Windows 8.1 app shortcuts on the Start Screen?
