    Windows 7 to Windows 10 Upgrade Stuck at 30%


    My friend needed help upgrading to windows 10, so he lent me his pc and after a lot of troubleshooting, I still cant get the windows 10 update to go past 30%. This is happening on the blue screen with the text "working on updates 30%" after the pc has restarted a few times. I've been able to safely get out of this screen by pressing the reset button, but then it just reverts back to windows 7. Here's a list of things I tried:

    • Update BIOS
    • Run windows Update checker a few times
    • Install latest drivers from motherboard website
    • Delete pervious updates from cache
    • Unplug all USB devices while updating
    • Run chk dsk & sfc scan
    • Defrag C: drive
    • Update from both pc update assistant and boot media USB
    • Unplug all unnecessary hardware i.e. extra ram sticks

    Here's the PC specs:

    • CPU: Intel Pentium g3260
    • Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H81M-HD2 rev. 1.0
    • GPU: Onboard graphics
    • RAM: 4GB GSkill Ripjaws DDR3 1333Mhz


    I'm trying to do this without erasing ANY DATA


    I'm kinda losing my mind over this and I don't want to let my friend down. Any suggestions on what could fix this?
